Rectober 2015: Day 7
I haven't finished the Rectober challenge (there are still 8 posts to go), so I'll just keep posting whenever I find some time, until I'll actually finish it. I still have a lot of recs to share!

Rectober 2015: Day 7 - All the Small Fandoms

This part of my recs post is dedicated to some of my favourite small fandoms. Since smallfandomfest is ongoing (♥) I thought it would be appropriate to include this category on my list. All the love for small fandoms! 45 works (44 fics, 1 fanart) for 9 fandoms - I wanted to pick 5 only, but I couldn't decide...

Recs Small Fandoms

ALMOST HUMAN

Rating: Mature
Word Count: 51,268
Warnings: -
Summary: Dorian wants to dance. John has an invitation. Everyone else watches. (Or, the one where John and Dorian become media darlings and a precinct-wide public relations nightmare, all in a single weekend.)

Why I loved it: I've read it some time ago, but it's defintiely one of my favourite Almost Human fics (out of all those I've read so far). I love how protective John and Dorian are of each other, how their relationship impacts everything and how everyone tries to help them. It's a really, really brilliant fic.

2. Title: And All That I Can Hear Is One

Warnings: -
Summary: The bot just keeps staring at Rudy. He's convinced it is.

Why I loved it: I love fics that focus on Rudy overall - there is not enough of fics that focus on Rudy - and I love how this one is written - I also love that Rudy is happy, because he deserves happiness. I love the OC character and John/Dorian parts are a great bonus. I love it.

Why I loved it: While I'm not into this pairing, I really enjoyed the fic, so I thought I would mention it. There is not enough of fics about Rudy nor Valerie around, so why not.

4. Title: The Detective Needs Proof: Five Times Valerie or Sandra Know Exactly the Right Thing to Say

Pairing(s) Sandra Maldonado/Valerie Stahl, John Kennex, Dorian, Rudy Lom, Richard Paul
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Word Count: 1,535

3. Title: New Game (Continued in Process)
Author: unavez18
Pairing(s) Sam Miller/Eric McNally
Rating: Mature
Word Count: 31,590
Warnings: -
Summary: A "beginnings” fic for Breakfast with Scot (m/m pairing). The already-established relationship of the couple in the movie intrigued me enough to come up w/ this story. It takes place after the very first scene of the movie, which is 5 years before the bulk of the movie occurs, so there really isn’t much “spoiling” in it; certainly nothing central to the plot of the movie.

Why I loved it: I love this fic and how the author described Eric and Sam's first meeting and how they developed a relationship. It's long and the way everything is descibed is very close to how I imagined Sam and Eric's first meeting would go.

Why I loved it: It's a nice fic. I really like the characterization and the dialogue. It's great to get more insight into Larry's family and how difficult things must have been for Larry, considering Sam's job. Not to mention the scenes between Sam and Larry. I love it.

4. Title: Asleep in the City
Author: sheepfairy
Pairing(s) Tamara Adama/Zoe Graystone
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Word Count: 2,633
Warnings: -
Summary: Tamara would like answers and Zoe might have them.

Why I loved it: I think it's the only fic for this pairing I've read overall, and I haven't thought about it until I've read this fic. I like this concept and how the fic was written.

5. Title: No Me, Without You
Author: Lint
Pairing(s) Zoe Graystone, Lacy Rand
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Word Count: 3,459
Warnings: -

Why I loved it: That is one great take on the relationship between Zoe and Lacy, and how important it is. I like how everything that had happened is described , including emotions, is described. There should be more fics about Zoe and Lacy's relationship.

Pairing(s) Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan, Bub Bailey
Rating: Mature
Word Count: 7,324
Warnings: Violence
Summary: Bub hates Mondays, but he’s got good reason. And Timmy needs to stop interfering in other people’s disasters.

Why I loved it: I love fics in which Bub appears overall, and his friendship with Don and Tim is one of my favourite things in this fandom, so when I've read this fic, I was so very happy. And I got a bit emotional. Meaning, I wanted to hug and Timmy, and Don and Bub. I love how Bub protects Timmy and how they both make sure the other is okay. It's defintiely one of my favourite fics.

3. Title: For Better or Worse

Pairing(s) Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan, Bub Bailey
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Word Count: 2,933
Warnings: A bit of info from all the movies.
Summary: Sometimes Bub hated his life, sometimes he didn't.

Why I loved it: Once again, a fic about bub working with Don and Tim, because I couldn't help it. I love fics where Timmy helps with cases, and he's so great! Timothy goes undercover (and is very well prepared), the banter between Bub and Don is awesome and Don and gets very protective in the end.

Word Count: 20,919
Warnings: The teeniest, tiniest ones for Ice Blues and Shock to the System, if you’ve seen them and are really paying attention.
Summary: The best of things are often entirely unexpected. They’re built slowly and carefully. And sometimes, love just comes up and smacks you in the face.

Why I loved it: A fic from the "how they met" variety, which I love to re-read from time to time. I think it's one of the fics I re-read most in this fandom, actually. I really like the first meeting, developing the relationship, and Don and Timmy trying to work things out, I adore Tim's friendship with Mattie.

Word Count: 6,517
Warnings: -
Summary: Don always loved to give Tim flowers. There are five that stood out.

Why I loved it: I have a huge soft spot for Donald giving Timmy flowers. Each part of the fic is lovely and I especially like the first one, where Timmy and DOn meet for the first time and Don is so, so smooth. And it's a really great fic overall. Timmy deserves all the flowers in the world.

6. Title: Secrets Kept, Secrets Shared (at AO3 *HERE*)

I love not only how Alan and Billy's relationship is written, but also how all the characters interact - the friendships, the rivalries, the dialogue, it's really wonderful, in my opinion. Another case in which I absolutely adore the OCs. And the long, long, very long courtship is pretty much brilliant.

A journey to close the dig in Montana for the winter, gives both of them the time to assess their relationship and realize that it could be so much more.

Wow...
Thank you so much for the rec!!! I have to say that it's one of my favorites; I think it captures Timmy really well. I somehow got his voice, and loved how it came out! And now I have more lovely stuff to read!!!

(btw, the first DSM link should be called "Cold Brew" - I thought it was weird that we had 2 stories with the same name by two different people!).
