Rectober 2015: Day 13
Rectober 2015: Day 13 - Maybe I'm Not in This Fandom, But the Fics Are Awesome

It took me a while to compile and post this list, because I found out I actually don't read as many HP fics as I thought. I usually just check out some tags for my main ships and that's it. That was why making this list was a great challenge. It was fun.

I chose 24 ship fics and 8 gen/friendship fics. And, after looking at my list, who wants to guess who my favourite characters are? :D

Recs Harry Potter

1. Title: Something More
Author: SlantedKnitting
Pairing(s) Lee Jordan/George Weasley, Fred Weasley/Angelina Johnson
Rating: Explicit/NC-17
Word Count: 8,961
Warnings: -
Summary: Fred's away on his honeymoon with Angelina, so Lee stays over at the twins' flat to help out with the shop. George is still a single man, however, and Lee is determined to find out why.

Why I loved it: George tries very hard to concentrate on working in the shop, and still has to get used to the fact that Fred got married. He is worried, he has a hard time adjusting to the new situation, and because of that the things between him and Lee are a bit tense. Also, George has a crush on Lee and Fred is a great brother.

2. Title: Neville and George (Chapter 1: COMPLETE, Chapter 2: WIP)
Author: imamaryanne
Pairing(s) George Weasley/Neville Longbottom, Ron Weasley/Hermione Granger, Luna Lovegood, Augusta Longbottom, Harry Potter, Ghost Fred Weasley, Ginny Weasley
Rating: Mature
Word Count: 33,776
Warnings: -
Summary: Seriously depressed after the war, Neville finds love and comfort from a surprising source.

Why I loved it: Post-The War. Neville doesn't feel well, doesn't know how to handle being popular, especially since all he wants is to stay at home and wait until things calm down. He visits George's shop in search for a gift and it changed how he looked at some things. George and Neville help and support each other. Also, I love the friendship between Neville and Luna and between Neville and Ginny, and Ron being Ron and totally missing the fact that George and Neville started seeing each other. This is the fic that introduced me to this airing, so I have a soft spot for it.

3. Title: Fifteen Cups of Joe

Why I loved it: A lovely coffee shop!AU, that focuses on the development of Kingsley's relationship with Benjy. Also, Sirius and James work with Kingsley and it's hilarious. I love it.

4. Title: I'm Your Man
Author: Delphi
Pairing(s) Alastor Moody/Kingsley Shacklebolt
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count: 1,035
Warnings: -
Summary: Three times Kingsley was Kingsley and Moody was unexpectedly courtly.

More than attracted to some of the men attending, Percy has to find out exactly what it is he wants, preferably before things get out of hand. However, fate and luck have joined to give Percy a real surprise...

Why I loved it: Another fic I have a huge soft spot for, mainly because I really like that it's about people appreciating Percy. Percy has to decide what it is that he wants and learns something he did not expect at all. I really want to hug Percy. Also, Kingsley is awesome and I like the appearances of some minor characters.

Rating: Explicit/NC-17
Word Count: 8,355

Why I loved it: I have a strange soft spot for that one, I have to admit. It's actually one of the first fics I thought of when I was compiling this list. I like Percy and Marcus' accidental meeting, their interactions, I like Percy helping Marcus decorate his flat for Christmas, it's nice.

8. Title: The Many Occupations of Percy Weasley (and How Neville Longbottom Suffered Through Every Single One)

Why I loved it: This fic is very fun. Neville ends up meeting Percy more often than he ever expected, Percy is being his stubborn self, their relationship is complicated. Neville is so surprised that McGonagall offered him the job of a Herbology teacher, and he works hard to become a great teacher, I love it. Also, McGonagall is awesome, I want to hug Luna a lot, I like Nevill's interactions with Snape's portrait and it's great.

9. Title: Ben Folds's Series
Author: Perpetual Motion
Pairing(s) Percy Weasley/Oliver Wood, a lot of other characters
Rating: Mature
Word Count: 37,774
Warnings: -
Summary: Wherein book 7 is completely ignored because wars don't tend to happen so quickly; Percy Weasley runs a safehouse [because that's as close to administrative work as you can get in a war], and everyone gets a chance to play minor character bingo. Get your cards and markers ready!

Why I loved it: AU fic that ignores Book 7, but still happens during the war. I have a ridiculous soft spot for it, actually, even if I found it only recently. Percy runs a safehouse, helps every member of the Order that comes in, including Oliver. I love Percy interacting with all the characters, I love the development of Percy and Oliver's relationship, and that the fic shows how many people faught in the war and helped the Order.

10. Title: Interdepartmental Cooperation

Word Count: 14,274

Why I loved it: This one is a lovely get-together fic, in which Percy and Oliver meet again when Percy finds out that Oliver is working for the Ministry. There are misunderstandings, attempts at flirting, Percy having difficulties with dealing with emotions, Oliver teasing Percy... I love it.

Mostly, they just act like the biggest rivals ever, making everything a 'friendly' (but not abusive, just over the top) competition."
Marcus kisses Percy after a game. The tabloids make a fuss, and Oliver is not pleased. Clearly, the only way to settle who's the best is with a good old-fashioned, naked wrestling match.

Why I loved it: Oliver and Marcus are both dating Percy and that's another reason for them to get competitive. I love it. It's hilarious. Oh, those three.

It was easier, in a sense, once he had a word to explain something that seemed inexplicable to so many...But he’d never really gone searching for language, or for community, and he always just thought of himself as simply not interested. Not interested in relationships, or sex, or the kind of love that people fall into."

Why I loved it: A character study, in which Charlie talks to Bill about being asexual and aromantic, and the fic focuses on Charlie and Bill's conversations and Charlie's thoughts and feelings.

I don't think I could read anything where I'm not in the fandom, aka not knowing the characters whatsoever (because to me that's what 'not in the fandom' means) but I have friends that like fell in love with "The Flash" through reading fanfiction and only then starting to watch, so there's that :D
Megan Moonlight: singhmegan_moonlight on June 16th, 2016 05:31 pm (UTC)
I guess "not in the fandom" can mean a lot of things XD In this specific case I meant that I have read the Harry Potter books and I know all the characters, but it's just not my fandom. I don't interact with it, I'm not very interested in it, I only sometimes read fics and that's it.

But there are some fandoms I'm actually not in, as in I haven't seen/read them, but read fics for anyway. For instance, I have read fics for Babylon 5 before I have seen the show, and the fics were what inspired me to watch it in the first place.
